Fort St School Sydney

Fort Street Public School — Construction Final Clean

Project: Fort Street Public School Upgrade
Location: Observatory Hill / Millers Point, Sydney NSW (Metro)
Client: Schools Infrastructure NSW via Lendlease Building
Scope: Builder’s clean & final clean ahead of handover

Project Overview

The project involved the comprehensive redevelopment of the heritage‑site Fort Street Public School to accommodate up to 24 new classrooms, a school hall, library, new play areas, Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) and Out‑of‑School Hours Care facilities.
This upgrade blends new build elements with significant heritage refurbishment and is located in a highly constrained urban site.

Scope of Works (Cleaning)

  • Internal builder’s clean of all new teaching spaces, library, hall, specialist rooms.

  • External façade/glazing cleaning in new build zones and refurbished heritage elements.

  • Stage‑based cleaning aligned with the construction staging in a live campus environment (school remained operational).

  • Final clean across delivered zones in preparation for handover to client.

Challenges & Solutions

  • The site is tightly constrained: bounded by the Cahill Expressway ramp, Bradfield Highway and major pedestrian/cyclist routes.

  • Works executed while the school was operational — requiring staged access, safety & segregation of zones.

  • Heritage and new build interfaces required special attention to finishing and cleaning methodology (e.g., heritage refurbishment in the MET Building).

  • Our team coordinated with construction sequencing and Lendlease’s handover milestones to ensure cleaning deliverables did not delay the client’s occupancy.

Outcome

Cleaning works were completed in tandem with Lendlease’s construction program. The refurbished and expanded school campus was delivered with presentation standard consistent with the client’s expectations, ready for the start of operations. The clean fully supported an on‑time handover of the completed zones.
